The Pineapple 3nd February 2004 |
 |
Today the intrepid explorers went to Edinburgh and spent the day happily
wandering. We visited the castle first then had lunch at a pub called the Deacon
Brodie, where a cheeky young barman talked me into having a pint of 80-/-s
instead of a to keep out the cold! Good mussels and burgers for lunch. The
story of Deacon Brodie is interesting as he was the person Lewis Carroll based
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on.
We caught a tour bus out to Holyrood House which is closed, alighted in Princes
Street and wandered round the new shopping precinct, drank coffee then walked
for miles admiring the lovely architecture and visited Greyfriars Bobby too. The
new Scottish museum building is absolutely stunning, not open but a must see on
our next trip.
We found our way out of Edinburgh easily and located an Asda where we bought
everything deemed necessary for the rest of our stay.
Back at the Pineapple we cope with oven less dinner and enjoy steak and wine in
front of the fire and peruse possible trips for tomorrow.
