28th February 2006 Red Sea Cruise |
After a large brunch we went on an afternoon shopping outing to Hurghada, we
were told that the first stop was tourist shops, but the second would be
traditional shops and markets. Hurghada is coastal with pretty beaches and
stunning mosques with brightly coloured roofs. Our first stop was
disappointingly the hard rock cafe! We sat in the pretty garden and drank beer,
wandered around the tourist shops and saw a camel waiting at a bus stop!
Our second stop was more tourist shops, but at least in a main street. We
wandered and bought some beach towels for the next day and some lovely Egyptian
saffron.
We spent some time sitting outside a small restaurant, surrounded by hungry
cats, drinking beer and waiting for our calamari order. It took so long to
arrive that we had to wrap it up in napkins and eat it on the coach, so we
didnt see the coffee that we ordered. A pity as the only decent coffee we had
was off the ship! It was an interesting afternoon, but we were disappointed that
we were taken to 2 tourist places. We may never see a souk now. No brownie
points for Thompsons today either, we can go to a hard rock cafe anytime!
Back on board we had a rest and a beer before our Tex-Mex buffet. A promenade
round the deck and a nightcap before bed.
