Lundy Saturday 3rd June 2000 |
We are leaving today so are all up early to pack and clean up. Our luggage got collected and tractored down to the harbour, so there is nothing to carry but a handbag, that's what I call service! We are tidied and out of the Quarters by 10am. H.M.Oldenburg doesn't leave till 3.30pm as it brings day passengers too, so there's nothing for it but the pub as it's raining and misty again. We eat a last meal there and settle the bills for the shop and pub - we all agree that it is surprisingly cheap. Cliff lends me a book to finish reading that I'd borrowed from the pub library - I will post it back to him.
Jack says a fond farewell to Eyam the sheep and the pot bellied piggies. Nick, Jenny and Bernie decided to go to the lighthouse again so set off down hill early. We opted for staying warm and dry with another beer. As we walked down to the harbour later on the mist and rain have cleared and the sun is shining again, it's a beautiful afternoon, perhaps it will be a more tranquil trip home?
We set sail at 4.30pm. the return journey was uneventful thankfully! One of the Lundy ponies is in a cage going back to the mainland, the poor thing was hoisted by crane on to the boat. We dock at Bideford about 6pm and take the arranged coach back to Ilfracombe to pick up our cars, arriving there at 7.30pm. A real pain docking in a different place as we still have the drive home! We hug all the Cambridge guys goodbye and set off.
By Barnstaple we were feeling hungry again, but we didn't see anywhere nice, so we carried on to Tiverton where the Golden Panda Chinese restaurant fed us plenty of wonderful food - well worth visiting if you go to Tiverton, it is located in Newport St. We then drove straight home on a quiet motorway and reached sunny M K at 1.30 in the morning. It's been a really good holiday, lots of fun, Andrew and I enjoyed the boys company more than we expected to. Lundy is fun if you just enjoy walking and lazing around for a few days, we all agreed we'd go back sometime.
